Episode 78—Disappearing Fabric Stores
Today's episode is a chatty update about what I've been sewing and the ongoing disappearance of fabric stores. One of my favorite stores outside of Seattle announced last week that it was closing, and the first wave of Joann Fabrics locations have shuttered for good. Is online shopping an alternative? I'll offer up some suggestions for my favorite online retailers as we prepare to navigate a changing landscape.
SHOW NOTES
McCall’s 8560 quilted jacket pattern—this will be the base for my Bernina University project
Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks—an excellent pair of high-waist pull-on pants with leg variations; great for first-time pants makers.
Burda 6146—a pattern I pulled out of my stash and made up this week from a Kaffe Fassett cotton sateen wideback (108”) fabric. Huge success!
My favorite online fabric retailers:
KnitFabric.com—my favorite place to buy French terry
And don’t forget, you can always ask your local quilt store if they would consider bringing in a few fabrics for garment sewists!
